Reading – 1 December 2020

Standard

Reading is almost the only exercise I get now, except forty minutes of physiotherapy per week. Even though reading is only exercise for the mind, I insist on calling it exercise.

I once read somewhere that reading gives you something to do when you have nowhere to go. Couldn’t be truer in my life. Being in a wheelchair and no longer driving, there’s no popping out “just quickly”.

I do find tv a bit of a waste of time during the day (even sometimes in the evening), but in books I can lose myself completely and whether it is fact or fiction, I almost always learn something. Most of all, it opens up emotions and expands the mind like nothing else can. That’s for me anyway, like creating, painting, sewing, cooking, etc. may be for others. It’s also an activity I can do on my own. I’m thankful for my love of reading. Reading is my groove!

MS may have made my world smaller, but books keep the walls far from closing in.
